Permaculture gardens are not perfect! Pest and diseases are part of any natural, organic garden. Let's take an honest look at an issue I'm having this year on my Seckel Pear tree. Note Seckel pears are considered self-fertile or "mostly" self-fertile, but can set better with other pears in the area. None of my neighbors have pear trees but I get HEAVY fruit set. Seckel pears are ideal for Orego...

    Looks so lush. I was wondering if you could draw a quick sketch of the trees in your food forest. Where you have put the plants? Its so full, I have a hard time getting a sense of how they are laid out.

    This is amazing and I really liked your video. I usually don't like the term permaculture, because it refers to a new state of mind that makes older gardener's as not knowing how to grow veggies and the mind state, which is so not true. I will be trying the purple green beans, because I have a slug problem, Not the big slugs, but the small slugs in Eastern Oregon. Thanks so much. Don

    Your goji is huuuge! I got a little guy at Safeway on clearance earlier this spring, it’s already put on some big canes but no flowers/fruit yet. I’ve got it in a planter just trying to keep the vines from touching the ground

    How do you keep your peach trees from getting insect damage? My peach trees produced fruit for the first time this year, but they were devastated by insect damage. Some sort of caterpillar that drills into the peach and leaves a little gel-like substance on the surface.

    • @ParkrosePermaculture
      @ParkrosePermaculture 21 годину тому

      I have not had problems with insects on my peaches. The only problems I have really had are bacterial canker, which is endemic here, and a bit of leaf curl. I know folks who do have issues with insect damage on their peaches, often bag them when they are very small and green to prevent that damage

    • @ParkrosePermaculture

      I do not thin my pawpaws but I do brace branches. I did have a broken branch last year and lost maybe 10 fruit as a result. I don't thin my persimmons because they do a significant June fruit drop on their own so they sort of self thin

    I’m so excited about my fire bush! (Hamelia patens) The list is long of species that drink the nectar, eat the berries, nest in their branches. A 3g bush can quickly be trained into a beautiful 15-20 ft tall tree. The dwarf variety, I grow the same but closer to the house and in smaller areas. The flowers are shaped a little differently on the dwarf, but still attracts many butterflies and birds. The dwarf I can keep at 8-10’ tall to cast a little shade around it. What a plant! They should triple their size by winter in FL!

    Always wear gloves, this is a staph bacteria which can infect humans too! Soak the feet in epsom salt bath, use Prid salve to draw out the infection, bandage until hole has closed with a scab. Soak feet, medicate, and change bandage daily until it clears up.

    • @ParkrosePermaculture
      @ParkrosePermaculture 2 дні тому

      It's not bumblefoot. This is not an infection. She had very deep foot creases and mulch and pebbles would get stuck in them. Bumblefoot looks different and I'm very familiar with both of these situations and can tell the difference. There was no infection here. There was no "hole" there is no need to bandage. It wasn't infected there was just a pebble caught in her deep foot crease for several days.

    I remember researching into evaporative cooling in dairy rooms, which were built outside of houses (or next to the coolest side of a house)that would use porous clay tiles on the floor, and you would pour a bucket of water over it to utilize that evaporation to make the room much cooler. I'm in such a hot, dry climate(Eastern Oregon) that water always makes things cooler, and I think about this often, though I haven't found a great way to implement it yet.

    I actually got to see a similar prairie near my house for the first time on Friday. Drive past this road all the time, know the corner well. But I was going to a Muckleshoot program they host for the community in the summer. Plant medicine, rock painting, tie dye. Kiddo and me stuff in a good environment for us :) But the drive out the barn (and surrounding it) is just like that. Wild herbs, native grasses, carrots, willow, buckthorn, hazel by the roads and in the fields. Never knew it was there until I literally pulled off the main road. Going back this coming Friday :) Especially since we arrived early and the almost empty parking lot and no trespassing signs gave the kiddo anxiety so we came home this time.

    In NY we had a large willow stump in the shade. As it decayed, we hollowed out a bit of the center, threw in some soil and planted red impatiens. They were beautiful and a chipmunk took up residence - so cute peeking out between the flowers.

    Heia 🤗 I have been Card Weaving for 3 years now and I love it❤ I use cardboard tablets that I make myself. I use pizza boxes that I cut in 5 cm (2"). I sometimes use 30 cards and I have not had anny problems with the cards. If one gets bent I simply toss it and take a new one😉 This is also something that the kids help me with 🥰 Tablet Weaving is at least 3600 years old and I hope it remains for at least that long in to the future ❤ Great video 👍👍 Best wishes from Norway 🤗🤗🤗
